BIO

...A cataclysm through which bright things shall emerge - Dazzling audiences across the south of the UK - RIBBON challenge a culture of music boxed by genre, delivering something unique - sonically contorting the softest lullaby into an enraged monster.

Since their inception in 2009 the challenge was to translate their mesmerizing live show to record. Throughout 2011/2012 working with producer Paul Burton and mastering engineer Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios they have finally realised their dream in the way their dark imaginations intended.

Armed with a limited pre-release run of their debut album All Ends Eve, RIBBON are ready to deliver their prize to the masses and induce the next generation of post human rock music.

CAnd we don't care how you got here, It depends on the money you paid
DAnd we don't care how you feel now, It's what's outside that matters
BAnd we don't care that you're hurting, If you don't come to the front
EmIn the quiet time, when you see a light, Keep an eye on our page of rules
CNo we won't force it upon you, Just as long as you pay your dues

CRYPTOGRAPH

I sleep in a house at the edge of the town
Where the streets don't sleep and everyone has a secret
Look where the clouds have gone grey and walk down the alley
Where the stones have grown cold and steam stops surrounding

Where the shadows creep and you hear the rats running
Where the homeless man stops begging for mercy
You will come to a road with an old bridge at the end
Follow the path on the other side where I will be waiting

I have marked the way for you to find me
Just look out for the clues if the lights haven't blinded you

Footsteps show where my friends came before you
They pushed and they fought when everything was against them
See the marks on the front of their heads
Every night we stand, we defend

I have marked the way for you to find me
Just look out for the clues if the lights haven't blinded you

We have shown the way for you to join us
Just look out for the clues if the lights haven't blinded you

If the lights haven't blinded you...

SUNLIGHT

Day breaks. You ache. Life is getting harder
Working longer for a foreign master
Breaking news we've found a source of income
Free from harm as long as we obey some rules

Oh what a lovely baby
They'll put a chain around his head
They'll keep him weak with envy
Follow the plan or else you're dead

Sunshine come over us
We look up we are blinded by you
Sunlight burn through our skin
Drinking keeps us alive

Chimes ring. You sing songs of merry murder
Shape your tongue like ours in your surrender
See this future darker than december
Take your place in helping us to teach these rules

Oh what a lovely baby
Please give us somewhere we can hide
How can they destroy us
Is it the devil on their side

Oh what a lovely baby
They'll put a chain around his head
They'll keep him weak with envy
Follow the plan or else you're dead

Black out smoke and guns
Face down to the ground in surrender
We fall one by one
Wrapped around their fingers

Sunshine come over us
We look up we are blinded by you
Sunlight burn through our skin
Drinking keeps us alive

GOLD

There is a story that you will hear
A girl and a man in a chamber of gold
The man danced round the room
To the girl with eyes of stone
The chains wrapped ‘round her broken toes

She thought she'd escape but the man found her songs
The lyrics and chords and melodies gave her away
And the streets were filled with children shouting

We want your gold
‘Cause it's eaten your souls
That's how it glows
It's everything you are
Beautiful gold...

The gold surrounded them both as they danced
The comfort she had grown to filled him with dread
Secretly he knew he could do nothing but leave the room
The chains were tighter than he could undo

He ran outside, it was cold and heavy
The melodies grew distant, they were floating away
And the streets were filled with children shouting

We want your gold
‘Cause it's eaten your souls
That's how it glows
It's everything you are
Beautiful gold...

Space to let you through
Through the curtain that is lifting in my room
Will you help me please
I want to let you through
Help me suffocate my lover with a pillow

Wake me up, wake me up

We are joined as one
One soldier to fight
Kill ourselves with a weapon of the
Will you join us please
We'll tell you what to do
Take this gun and put it under your pillow

Wake me up, wake me up

CINDERELLA

Foot slips in a slipper
Glass cuts to the bone
She’s not Cinderella
No Prince Charming and no evil stepmother
Yet sucked into something
Lost in a sweet fantasy
Dressed to impress all those practical fellas
Who can offer her something to be and...

I know something about that man over there in the red rose waistcoat
look, see how he sweats as she touches her lips that’s the spot, do it again
I know something about that girl with the forgiving nature
Whore, they say, but watch how they judge when it’s clear that they’re filled with desire

She is naked, laying helpless
Full of poison, losing focus
Where is the pumpkin to take her away
She wipes the tear from her eyes
Then go out to start the dance again

She’ll dance for the money
She’ll dance for the compliments
But when the music stops
All she has is desperate men
She’ll dance for the money
She’ll dance for the compliments
But when the music stops
She’s left on her own again..

I know something about that man over there in the red rose waistcoat
He tries to stick thorns into her side to make her stay forever
I know something about that girl with the forgiving nature and it’s true
Everything she can offer you can be yours and it just gets better

DIAMONDS AND RAINDROPS

Pick up the shoes beside your bed
Creep out the door and down the stairs
Tiptoe into the dining room
And see what’s there

Come, come inside, come inside
No harm will ever come to you
I will give you all that you wish for
And a pretty dress to wear

Diamonds are coloured
By what’s behind their faces
And all of the money in the world
Could never buy your soul

Watch where I go and follow me
I am fulfilment of your dreams
Look no further because there’s
so much fun in store
There’s lollipops for us to eat
and animals for you to pet
I will give you all that you wish for
And flowers in your hair

Just wait for your nice surprise
We’ve got all the time you need
Let us sew these buttons on your eyes
And follow us down below

Rain drops keep falling on my head
they’re falling on my head...
I’m looking up...UP

GOLDEN TOWER

Hello man, I hear you’ve got a great big plan
Is it gonna change my life, is it gonna make me happy
I hear it’s something, something special
Everyone says I should go and get some

I have read a lot, and i've reached the conclusion
That in the world there is just confusion
But won’t you tell me more, give me your opinion
How do you feel about your life, your reasons

Screw the poor, they’re not trying
Give me more, I don’t care if who is dying
I’m a terrible beast, but I’m the king
And I’m on top of this great golden thing

Golden, I’ll climb this golden tower
Watch me, I’ll climb this golden tower
It’s the tower that can give you all the things you’ll ever need
All the cash tricks in the trade
That can replace your selfless dreams

Oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh, ha ha ha ha (x2)

I’ve got to stop, mustn’t get too excited
Got to try and remember that this man is lying
Can’t put my finger on it, but there’s a voice inside me
That says don’t buy it because he’s smiling

Rubbing his fingers, his palms are sweaty
His pupils are growing and he’s betting on getting me
I want to turn around, I want to turn and run away
The more I question the more I can see that

Golden, trapped by the golden tower
Frightened by the golden tower
It’s the tower that can give you all the things you’ll ever need
All the cash, tricks in the trade
That can replace your selfless dreams
And it’s the price you pay in satisfying all your greed
And the profits that you make will only escalate
‘til it’s too late to...

IN MY HOUSE

In my house there’s many many colours
And in the hallway there’s a stripey rug
In the lounge there is a comfy settee
And a widescreen TV with Sky Plus and all you’d ever want to see
All you’d ever want to see

In the kitchen there are chairs and tables
And near the microwave there is a block of knives
In that block there is my favourite knife
It’s got a big handle and ridges for cutting all the bones away
For cutting all the bones away

Near the staircase there’s a photograph of me
When I was young and still had long blonde hair
It was before I had it shaved off in the name of Venice
It’s a picture of me when I was young and I knew when I
When I was young I knew

How it started, how you took it
How I liked it when you read me a story about...

All the things that used to be
All the lies that were fed to me
Now all I know is nothing’s true

And I sit here watching
Ticking, tocking
In this white room
With all the pillows
Remembering when I was young

RED CARPET

I want to die
They’re telling me no
They say I could rise
Above it all
But they don’t know
I could change their minds
By twisting the wires
That I’ve connected under their seats

Red carpet, lay the red carpet down
The lesser ones can go underground
They’re invincible with their money and song
As they’re marching on

They’re marching on...

Pull the curtain
Block out that gap in the door
In secret I’ll dance by the candlelight
Pick up the bodies and pile them up high
I’ll trick or treat their fucking narrow minds

They’re marching on...

So dress me up
In diamonds and lace
Red black and white
Are my colours
There’s still one chance
I can change their minds
By making the last laugh mine
I’ll die inside

PAINTING ON THE WALL

The first time you came here
Wanted to be a master
Had so many plans for his life

Then he met Harry
Harry had a moustache
Gave him whisky and cigarettes

He coughed on the first one
The second one was tempting
The third one was a pleasure

Young and handsome man
Everybody loved him
Humbled by attention

Why don’t you have a picture
Of your beautiful face
It is only fitting
It would go wonderfully in that space
It won’t cost you anything
It would make me proud
I’ve got a good feeling about this one
It will be the talk of the crowd

Painting on the wall
What did you say
I’m sure I saw you wink at me
One more secret to hide, and one more night
I’ll kill you if you step inside that room

He noticed the painting
Starting to discolour
He climbed up to have a closer look
He saw it was smiling
And he became afraid
He took it down and hid it away

Where’s that beautiful painting
All his visitors would ask
He claimed he kept it upstairs
To protect against the light

He spent his nights in London town
With the jokers and the girls
And with the key around his neck
He learnt the ways of the world

Painting on wall...

STICKS AND MUD

Meet me on the hill of sticks and mud
Watching all the soldiers applaud
Do you know who put him there
Do you know what you’ve been told

I was scared sitting in the corner of an orange room
Sitting at the corner of a grand piano
There were many people waiting for me to play them a song
I don’t know if I’m ready to sing out quite yet
Are you ready to listen to what I have to say
Or do you need some time

You cry, you cry
You question who will ever see your tears
Or you hide, you hide
You’re hiding as you try and waste the time

So meet me on the hill of sticks and mud
There’s nothing to be afraid of
Come and turn the page of history
And we can all walk on together

When will we show them the truth
Oh tell us, tell us
Words without an action will not
Save you, save you (x2)

THE RIDE

I met a man just the other day
He was very attractive, he offered me a cup of tea and
It was very nice sitting on his leather sofa
We played get to know you then he offered me a lift home

We drove in his car past some shops and garages
It was sunny and warm so we opened up the sun roof
It’s nice to be free, he said to me, and out of millions
I am one of those who can benefit from the system

When I heard him say this I turned my head and raised my eyebrows
He said what’s the matter, have you got dust in your face
I said have you looked around recently, seen the state we're in
He said I don’t really care, it’s not like I can make a difference
And I said...

It is just a ride
You choose to join the ride
And it its hard to swallow
Just choose to fear or love
Just choose to fear or love

He looked at me in disbelief at the words that came out of my mouth
He said what have you got against us in the western world
We’re provided for and looked after, I pay my taxes and my mortgage
These ideas are fair enough but they won’t get you far
He said...

Don’t ignore the ride
I’ve got a lot invested in this ride
No job, no savings, no money
Oh what’s a man to do
Oh what’s a man to do?

He dropped me off at half past six I smiled and waved goodbye
My friends were standing at the gate, they said where have you been we’ve been here ages
I explained you won’t believe the conversation I’ve just had
Come with me now and we can all explain to this man why

We won’t join in the ride
Because we know we’ve got better things inside
This world is falling apart
So we will choose to love
So we will choose to love

THE SHOW

I’ve been thinking
Asking questions
About the things that hide away
All that we had
Inside our heads
Was the way we thought it was until the end

It’s not the same
As three years ago
When we hadn’t seen the show
The show of gods and buildings and money
And the more there is to consider
The more questions there are to ask

Should there be some way to protect
What’s in our minds and our hearts
For if we’re left to our own devices
It’s likely they will move to take us down
And we won’t even see...

Could the world be a better place
Without us in it?
Could the world be a better place
Without us in it?

Show them the light
Show them the light
Remove the blindfolds from their eyes
Remove the blindfolds from their eyes...

BRONSON

Thirty five years ago they took me in
For armed robbery
So far this was my only fall
Now I’m kept in a darkened room
Using the traces of my nails to scrape
Out the letters burned on the wall

Month after month I sit and sleep and eat
On my bed of concrete
Inches off the floor that I’ve just pissed on
What human being deserves that
If it’s right then let it be so
But let someone else have a fucking go

Sucking air for breakfast
Through a grid of steel

I’ve turned my hand to painting
And the last one sold on ebay
For a grand but I saw none of it

Because all my life I wanted to be famous..
And now I'm clothed
I'm the biggest celebrity here
Bigger than that Robert Maudsley
Everybody wants to be like me
I'm clothed in scarlet

(...used to...)
(Now I...Simle...)
(...)
I'll forever be B314
Forever be B314..

KEEP STILL

Crack through the walls
Dressed in black
They command

Sit down
On the floor
You know what this is about

Keep still let them tie you up
Don’t talk or you will get shot

Don’t expect too much
How long we’ll survive
Don’t expect too much
They might not keep us alive

Little by little
A part of them dies
As they stab us again
See the fear in their eyes

You’ve got us where you want us
Just take everything
What are you waiting for?
Just take everything

Keep still let them take your blood
Don’t move it might erupt your heart

Keep still...
Keep still...

OLIVER

Do you come here often
Think I remember your face
Were you here last Friday night
To watch the bands play
It was OK

I prefer London or Brighton
But sometimes it’s good for a laugh here
By the way
Can I buy you a drink?
That glass is looking strangely empty
Why don’t you come with me

Do you want to go outside
It’s alright I will wait here
For a little bit of fresh air
What’s the matter
Am I too much for you?

Am I too much for you...

I’d do anything
For you dear anything
For you dear anything
For you dear anything
For one kiss anything
For one touch anything
For one... Anything
Anything, anything...

SITTING BY THE RIVER

Sitting by the river
By my house in the sun
Thinking how I got here
How this catalyst begun

Leaking through my eyes
Falling to sleep in my mind
Running out of time
Holding tighter to my knife

Sitting by the river
By my house in the sun
Wondering what it’s worth
What today is resting on

Leaking through my eyes
Falling to sleep in my mind
Bleeding drop by drop
As I cut through my arm

But no one notices
That I’m breaking to pieces
Don’t try and stop me
I want to rest in peace

I wonder what would happen
If I saw God by my side
Would he tell me I am saved
And draw me out into the light

I wonder what would happen
If I saw God by my side
Would he turn around and look away
And send me down into the fire

But no one notices
That I’m breaking to pieces
Don’t try and stop me
I want to rest in peace

Look out
Look out for me
Might be creeping up behind you
No where you go is safe
Look out for me

START

Start far away
Sip from my glass as I fight
To stay awake during the day

What pray tell sleeps in the box
Lusting for love in the dark
Such was the sight of her final night

Shall we dance...

Light, white as snow
She strokes my hair
Whispers softly in my ear

Dark, red as wine
Drink sweet from her cup of memories

I’m in control of the world
I cast the shadows that fall on you
Drink from a part of you
No-one else knows

Pull it gently... out of my heart
Dressing my best, bracing myself
Wish me good night

Come, now’s the time
I will pay more than you think
Or ever could know

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

Why don’t you understand
It’s obvious to me
Just look in that newspaper
You will know what I mean

I’m the worst person in the world
And they know it
I’m the worst person in the world
And they’re trying to kill me

Tell me when it’s over
And I can go outside

I don’t know anymore
Don’t know who you are
Don’t know what you’ve come for
Something’s wrong with this
Perfect picture
Please prescribe an answer
I don’t know any

Hello voices hello ahh
Join in with me now join in ahh
Hello voices hello ahh
Join in with me now join in ahh

Tell me when it’s over
And I can go outside...
